Here’s what our clients have to say about their experience at Bodh:
“He is amazingly talented at doing hair. He establishes a relationship with every client and has the ability to bring out their inner beauty by enhancing it on the outside. Plus the salon is original, funky and inviting.”
“It’s not just a quick in and out service. He genuinely cares about all his clients and develops a personal relationship with them which enhances the experience.”
“Great sense of humor and makes me feel comfortable while I’m getting my hair done. Always has great ideas when I’m not sure what to do with my hair.”
“Jake is a genius with curly hair! There is a level of trust and rapport backed up by skill.”
“You NEVER worry about being disappointed with Jake.”
“I’ve gone to Jake for a number of years and have traveled many miles (from Pickering) for my sessions with him – he’s that good! Jake listens. He’s heard the concerns I’ve had with my hair. He helps me not to fight with Nature, but to work with it and I have a beautiful cut. He’s patient. I never feel that the session is rushed – to Jake you are the only client he’s focussed on. He doesn’t fit you in between colours or shampoos, your time with him, is your time.”
“I have always been very happy with Jake’s work. He is a very skilled stylist, has a great touch with colour and is always entertaining to talk with. Professional and fun – what a great combination!”

Barb Knows Guelph – A Teen’s Eye View
“My daughter has been seeing Jake Somerville of Bodh Salon & Photography for her hair since she won a cut and style certificate he donated to a community event last year. She was so excited to see this stylist we had heard such good things about, but felt some trepidation stepping into the stern looking, old brown building at 115 Woolwich St where Bodh is located. Her worry quickly dissolved after opening the door to the salon, revealing a funky space featuring sky blue walls and red accents. It’s an eclectic mix of old and new, cozy and modern – exactly her own personal style. She immediately felt at home.
Meeting Jake, she was set completely at ease as he actively listened to her articulate what she liked, disliked and hoped for about her hair. The fact that Jake was clearly focused on her, not squeezing her in between other clients went a long way in helping her open up. When you are a young teen, it takes a bit of time and courage to say what you want to say to an adult. By being the sole focus during the entire appointment, she was able to become comfortable enough to chat, giving Jake a better understanding of what she was looking for.
When I returned to pick her up, her hair looked amazing but her smile was even more dazzling. I knew she had found her new stylist and style! At home, she used the tips and tricks Jake had taught her to re-create the salon look, and to create new looks of her own. The Bodh experience is unique. Combining the hair salon with photography gives stylists the opportunity to step out from behind the chair and create their own looks, becoming more innovative and forward thinking. Jake is a master stylist with over 16 years in the industry. He strongly believes education is the key for mastering techniques and staying on point with current trends. I couldn’t agree more! His cuts grow out beautifully and are not just easy, but fun to manage.
Bodh, owned by Jake and his wife Michelle, just opened its doors in 2011 and has already become a fixture in the Guelph community. If you visit their website – www.bodhsalon.ca – it’s evident how involved and engaged the salon is, whether they are participating in local fashion shows, volunteering at events like “We Day” or donating to various charity initiatives. Their dedication to “giving back” is admirable. I’m excited to see how this business grows and thrives, both in the community and in the salon. I’m thrilled my girl has found her stylist.”
